What helps fuel Pack 8? POPCORN! Popcorn sales provide much of the funding for Pack 8 (there is a direct-fee alternative for busy families) and it also provides funding for the Boy Scouts of America. There are opportunities for Scouts to earn great prizes and those Scouts who sell over $1,000 worth of Popcorn become members of the Millenium Club and eligible for a special outing, such as a visit to the US Whitewater Center. Popcorn season runs from the first Saturday in October to Veteran's Day in November. In addition, when the Pack meets its goal, there is a tradition for the Cubmaster to do something pretty crazy, like our previous Cubmaster's pledge to dye his hair blue & gold! /center>

Webelos campout at Andrew Jackson State Park on September 24th. It is for one night, starting at noon on Saturday, returning the next day. The cost to participate is $10. For this campout, we'd like it to just be scouts and parents. We want the boys to be able to focus on Webelos tasks as much as possible.

A practical necessity of providing a great Cub Scouting program is the need for fundraising. Traditionally the Pack has used popcorn sales to fund pack activities and we strongly encourage participating in the popcorn program as a way to teach confidence in interacting with adults through sales and to foster a sense of commitment and contribution. Given the busy lifestyle and heavy commitments many of our families have today, however, the Pack Leadership has responded to requests for other options for our families to contribute their ‘fair share’ to the pack fundraising.
To provide our children with a high quality scouting experience, we need a contribution for each Scout of $100. Where the money goes is illustrated at the bottom of this article. The Pack offers two options for covering this fee. You can either pay the fee directly OR you can commit to selling at least $350 in popcorn, which returns approximately $100 in commissions to the Pack. Note to Webelos II parents - if your son will be crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 8 this year, the activity fee covers both Cub Scout and Boy Scout fees for this year.
Please choose one of the following options: (click read more to see the options)

Pack 8 just earned its qualification for the Pope Paul VI Catholic Quality Unit Award - this award recognizes achievement by the Pack through more than 25% of Cub Scouts earning their corresponding religious award & knot, adherence to Diocesian and BSA leadership and training requirements, performing service projects for its chartering Church & community, participation in religous activities, and learning about church-related vocations. Those Cub Scouts who have earned their religious award and/or knot are entitled to wear the National Catholic Quality Unit Award patch - great job, Pack 8!

Scouts who achieve $1,000 or more in popcorn sales earn membership in the Millenium Club! To celebrate, the 2009 Millenium Club members and one of their parents were treated to a day at the US Whitewater Center. Scouts enjoyed family-friendly whitewater rafting on the Center's waterways, enjoyed bungie jumping, zip lines, rope obstacle courses, biking, hiking, and rock climbing walls! Below is a picture of several Millenium Club scouts from Pack 8 in their Class B uniforms having a great time in the white water!
Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. For a guide to Pack 8 for 2009/2010 - click here.
Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join our Pack, but they may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting Troops. Contact Scoutmaster Mark Spisak for information on how to join Troop 8.
We'd love to hear from you!
