Pack 8 Meets the Mayor of Charlotte and the City Council!

Mayor Foxx with the Pack & Troop

On Monday, February 8, 2010, Scouts from St. Matthew's Pack 8 and Troop 8 were recognized in honor of the "100 Year Anniversary of Scouting" at the Charlotte City Council meeting. Our Scouts served as an Honor Guard and stood in Chambers as a proclamation in support of Scouting was read. Mayor ANthony Foxx, a former Scout himself, recognized the Boy Scouts of America and particularly programs in Charlotte to highlight the following:

  • 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America;
  • 80th Anniversary of the Cub Scouts;
  • 95th Anniversary of the Mecklenburg County Council Boy Scouts.

Pack 8 Recognized for Excellence at District Awards Banquet!

On Dec. 10, 2009, several members of Pack 8 were honored for their service at the Apache District awards banquet at St. Matthews Catholic Church. In addition to the always present fun, friendship, and fellowship, the banquet was designed to honor and recognize those who have distinguished themselves in serving their Packs, Dens, Troops, and Crews, as well as the District and the Council in so many ways!

Leading the list is our own Pack 8 Cubmaster, Christopher Kubala, who received Cubmaster of the Year for 2009. Way to Do Your Best, Mr. Kubala!!

Cub Scout Religious Awards

A Scout is Reverent

This statement is one of the cornerstones of all of Scouting. We start the Cub Scout Promise with: "I promise to do my best to do my duty to God..."

The Boy Scouts of America recognize that each of us interprets our Duty to God by following our own Faith. Our Chartered Organization, St. Matthew, is a Catholic Church and a robust community. But we also have members of the Pack of many different faiths.

Pack 8 encourages Scouts of all faiths to explore and deepen their relationship with God by pursuing the Religious Emblem appropriate to your faith. The cost of a religious award handbook (and associated award) for any faith is $10: please let us know which book is appropriate for your family. Working on the Religious Emblem is an opportunity for Parent and Scout to have a structured conversation designed to deepen the Scout's faith in an age-appropriate and Church-approved way.

Volunteer Opportunities

Pack 8 is a volunteer-run organization. So it goes without saying that we need.....YOU to step up and help out the team.

This benefits your son in that he gets to see Mom or Dad take an active part in the Cub Scout Experience. It benefits the Pack in that we get to allow some of the 15 people running everything to take a little breather now and again. And it benefits YOU in that it gives you an opportunity to act like a little kid, support the Pack, and generally feel good about yourself.
