Mayor Foxx with the Pack & Troop
On Monday, February 8, 2010, Scouts from St. Matthew's Pack 8 and Troop 8 were recognized in honor of the "100 Year Anniversary of Scouting" at the Charlotte City Council meeting. Our Scouts served as an Honor Guard and stood in Chambers as a proclamation in support of Scouting was read. Mayor ANthony Foxx, a former Scout himself, recognized the Boy Scouts of America and particularly programs in Charlotte to highlight the following:
- 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America;
- 80th Anniversary of the Cub Scouts;
- 95th Anniversary of the Mecklenburg County Council Boy Scouts.
Pack and Troop 8 Scouts were honored to be chosen to represent all of Scouting in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area at the special ceremony. Troop 8 Eagle Scout Kyle Fabian spoke about the importance of Scouting and serving others. He provided feedback on the recent effort for "Scouting for Food" and talked about the impact that Scouting has had on the 12,000 young people participating in Scouts in Mecklenburg County.
Mayor Foxx and all the City Council members were very impressed with our fine Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. This was a wonderful way to commemorate the anniversary of Scouting and provided our young men a good opportunity to demonstrate their core values. The ceremony was very impressive - watch the Video HERE Pack 8's part starts at about 8 minutes in to the video.

Our own Cubmaster of the Year, Christopher Kubala!
