Participation Fees

The participation fee for the 2012 Scouting year for Pack 8 is $125 – this covers a range of expenses, broken down as follows:

  • Awards (beltloops, activity badges, patches, etc.)
  • Activities such as Blue & Gold, Corn Maze, Graduation, Pinewood Derby, Watermelon Festival, etc.
  • BSA Charter fees & Boys Life Subscription
  • Mecklenberg County Council facilities support (Belk Scout Camp)

For some activities where participation is more optional or there is a special per participant charge (e.g.,Fal and Spring Cuborees or an overnight Pack campout on the USS Yorktown), an additional charge may sometimes be announced, but the Pack attempts in budgeting to cover most participation charges in the annual fee.

In order to offset the cost of participation, the Pack offers the opportunity to sell Trails-End popcorn through a Boy Scout sales program – the Pack and the Council receive a commission for these sales, so if your Scout commits to and achieves sales of $400, the participation fee is considered to be satisfied.

The participation fee is due at the beginning of the year and will be collected at Pack meetings. For convenience, the pack has a PayPal account where this can be paid (pack8paypal@gmail.com) - click here for a helpful instruction guide. For each Scout who chooses to satisfy the participation fee through popcorn sales, his Akela must sign a commitment form to sell $400 worth of popcorn. If a Scout commits to $400 in sales but does not achieve or exceed that goal, the participation fee will be prorated to reflect sales achieved and will be due at the end of the popcorn sale in November.

Summary:
Fee - $125 per scout

Decision:
pay immediately through PayPal or by check at September Pack Meeting)
- OR -
commit to $400 in popcorn sales - if sell enough, fee waived, else pay prorated amount based an amount sold in November
