Cub Scout Religious Awards

A Scout is Reverent

This statement is one of the cornerstones of all of Scouting. We start the Cub Scout Promise with: "I promise to do my best to do my duty to God..."

The Boy Scouts of America recognize that each of us interprets our Duty to God by following our own Faith. Our Chartered Organization, St. Matthew, is a Catholic Church and a robust community. But we also have members of the Pack of many different faiths.

Pack 8 encourages Scouts of all faiths to explore and deepen their relationship with God by pursuing the Religious Emblem appropriate to your faith. The cost of a religious award handbook (and associated award) for any faith is $10: please let us know which book is appropriate for your family. Working on the Religious Emblem is an opportunity for Parent and Scout to have a structured conversation designed to deepen the Scout's faith in an age-appropriate and Church-approved way.

Mrs. Christine Tweddle has graciously (no pun intended) offered to help coordiate our Religious Emblem efforts for the Pack. She will keep track of which scouts are working on Religious Emblems, organize the purchase of books from the Scout Shop, coordinate with the appropriate groups to order the religious awards, and confirm that the elements of the awards are completed prior to Scout Sunday in early February. Thanks to her for offering to help out.

If you have further questions regarding the Religious Emblems program or want to order a book appropriate to your faith, please contact Mrs. Tweddle here thetweddles@windstream.net or at 704 243 3761.

We are Cub Scouts Pack 8, based near Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC. We are chartered by St. Matthew Catholic Church, and we belong to the Apache Division of the Mecklenburg Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. For a guide to Pack 8 for 2008/2009 - click here.

Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join our Pack, but they may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting Troops. Contact Scoutmaster Mark Spisak for information on how to join Troop 8.

We'd love to hear from you!
